Cold Autumn
Cold autumn knocks on the car windows
With rainy hands
And I'm safe inside warm thoughts
Of cold ideals tempering.
And later,
In thick new seasonal knitwear
I'm wrapped to enjoy splat rain.
And even later,
Dogen tells me about impermanence
And I know it is okay to smile
When remembering love--
Hanging as it did from the cherry tree,
It was beautiful in its time.
Tree bones and my bones--
Of green leaves and pink blossoms,
Remember them we will whisper, remember.
I knock on glass of a lonely office window
To tell cold autumn.
Cold autumn knocks on the car windows
With rainy hands
And I'm safe inside warm thoughts
Of cold ideals tempering.
And later,
In thick new seasonal knitwear
I'm wrapped to enjoy splat rain.
And even later,

And I know it is okay to smile
When remembering love--
Hanging as it did from the cherry tree,
It was beautiful in its time.
Tree bones and my bones--
Of green leaves and pink blossoms,
Remember them we will whisper, remember.
I knock on glass of a lonely office window
To tell cold autumn.
(Sneeking in with one .. and Dogen was a zen master).
